BUSY DAY
June 22, 2009
53 House started it's day at 04:39 hrs for Truck 53 to
respond to 5274 Sunset Pike, box 11-05 for the AFA.
Truck cleared at 5:09. Shortly after Engine 53 was
alerted to a 53-01 box at 05:29 for vehicle accident
with fire and entrapment at the intersection of Burd and
North Earl Street. Engine crew arrived to find a two
vehicle accident with a pick up truck on its side,
confinement and no fire. E53 crew assisted with
cribbing, patient packaging/removal, hazard control. EMS
transported 1 patient to Chambersburg Hospital, later
flown to Hershey Medical Center. E53 cleared at
06:10. At 08:15 Truck 53 was alerted to 976 Ritner Hwy.
Box 152-01 for an Auto Accident with truck into a house
with fire and entrapment. Truck 53 arrived to find a
pick up truck and tractor trailer into a house, possible
entrapment on the second floor, and had fire in the
house and entrapment in the tractor trailer. Truck crew
quickly ladder the house forced entry to search the
second floor, occupants out. Operator set up ventilation
side A & C, with lighting. Crew then assisted with
salvage and overhaul and assisted squad crew
extrication. A53 was dispatched for support at 08:40.
Truck 53 remained on scene for support until cleared at
14:08.

JUNE RUNS
Truck house has been busy in the month of June with 25
run to date, just not may exciting pictures to show.
Company 53 responded to a number of AFA's, Eclectic
fire, Transfers, Gas Leaks, and some Medical assists.

GARAGE FIRE
May 29, 2009
Truck, Engine
53 responded to 83 Cortland Circle, Southampton
Township, Franklin County Box 15-3 for the Garage Fire
at 18:37 hrs. County 911 center advised Company 15
units had a working Fire up graded to WFD. Air 53
Dispatched. Units arrived found small fire held Company
15 TK 53 for ventilation. Truck 53 cleared at 19:06

MVA, ONE AUTO ON ITS SIDE
May 22, 2009
Engine
53 responded to the intersection of King & Earl Street
box 53-01 for vehicle accident vehicle on its side. E53
arrived to find a
pickup
truck on its side into a tree in the 52-01 box.
Patient out sitting on side walk. E53 placed E154 (for
squad 54) in service before arriving on scene.

REPORTED GARAGE FIRE
May 21, 2009
Truck
and E53 alerted to Hurley Drive box 15-6 for the Garage
fire. Units arrived to find small fire in the garage
that was extinguished by residents prior to units
arrived. TK53 assisted with lighting, salvage and
overhaul and utilities.

DWELLING FIRE
May 13, 2009
Truck and Air 53 alerted at 09:16 to box 44-09 for the
Working Fire Dispatch at 96 Sunset Ave, Hamilton
Township . TK 53 stage in man power pull while Air 53
filled 30 cylinders. Truck and Air 53 cleared at
11:18hrs.

ENGINE 53 DONATION
May 13, 2009
Southampton Township, Franklin County Board of
Supervisors presented a check of $10,000.00 towards the
new engine 53. The members of the Cumberland Valley Hose
Company would like to thank the supervisors and the
residents for their support.

CHIMNEY FIRE
May 1, 2009
Truck and Engine 53 alerted at 14:56 to box 151-01 for
the Chimney Fire at 65 Peebles Road, Hopewell Township .
TK 53 took roof operation to drop chimney bombs and
chains. Crews also assisted with interior operation.
E53 placed in service, TK 53 cleared at 15:40hrs.

MOCK DRILL SASHS
April 24th
Crews participated in REALITY CHECK mock drill at the
Shippensburg Area Senior High School. The mock drill was
designed to be a pre-prom assembly for the juniors and
seniors called a Reality Check - a drinking and driving
mock crash. E53 assisted with the land zone of Stat Med
Evac. Special thanks to SAEMS and SASHS SADD

ROOF OPERATION TRAINING
April 23th
Crews participated in a roof operation training with
West End Co.15.
Brad Myers from the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire lead the
training. Crew participated in laddering the building
and some new ideas of roof cutting . Special
thanks to Brad Myers and WEFR.

HACC STRUCTURAL BURN
April 18th
Crews participated in a certified structural burn class
with 15 personnel along with a few members from
Sta. 4 and
West End Co.15.
A good time was had by everyone. Special thanks to
New Franklin
Co. 17 for running as Truck 53. Also thanks to
Curt Cramer for EMS duties.

SFD EASTER EGG HUNT
April 11th
Crews participated in the annual Shippensburg Fire
Department Easter Egg Hunt held at the Southampton
Township Park. Family members of all ages gathered
for a good time. The Easter Bunny even made an
appearance.

DWELLING FIRE
March 27th
Engine 53 was alerted at 16:34 to 11025 Roxbury Road box
11-02 for the dwelling fire. Captain 11 arrived on the
scene with a two story house heavy smoke showing,
"working fire". E53 arrived and assisted with utilities,
laddering the roof, pulling ceilings and ventilation on
division 2. E53 cleared at 18:11.

MOBILE HOME FIRE
March 25th
Engine 53 was dispatched at 05:24 to 640 Mickey Inn. Lot
6 for the working fire dispatched. E53 arrived staged on
Mickey Inn Lane for manpower pull. E53 cleared at 06:08

March 20th
Truck 53 alerted at 11:13 to 26 Worthington Road, North
Newton Township Box 247-01 for the Chimney Fire. Truck
assisted with roof operation. TR53 cleared at 12:21

TRUCK ON SPECIAL ASSINGMENT
March 16th
The Tower responded for a special request of EMS to an
industrial accident at CV Co-op. An individual
fell from the top of a grain bin and landed on a
building roof top. Aero medical was requested
while the tower set up for operation. Crews
utilized some minor rope work and a stokes basket
to rescue the injured person. The patient was
flown to Hershey.


CHIMNEY FIRE, AGAIN
March 10th
Crews were alerted to the 49-01 box for another chimney
fire. Units arrived on scene with a fire and
quickly went to work. Chains were ran for a while
before returning to service after approximately 45 mins.
BRUSH FIRE INVLOVING A SHED
March 9th
Truck and Engine 53 were alerted for the 151-02 box for
a brush fire involving a shed at 1527 hours.
Command 51 had the tower stage for further
investigation. After the fire was contained, the
tower and engine returned to service. Units were
placed in service at 1547 hours
SMOKE IN THE HOUSE
March 6th
Company 53 was dispatched for smoke in the house on
Senior Drive around 1249 today. Crews responded
with the Truck and the Engine. Arriving on scene
TIC's were used to check apartments. Nothing was
found and the box was placed in service.
CHIMNEY FIRE
March 4th
Truck and Engine 53 were alerted to the 251-02 box in
Lurgan Township for another Chimney Fire. Company
53 responded with 9 personnel and another 5 personnel
remained on station. Arriving on scene, Chief 51
held the fire to companies 51 & 53. Crews used
ground ladders too access the roof and extinguish the
chimney fire. Units went available after about an
hour of operation. When was the last time you had
your chimney cleaned?
CHIMNEY FIRE
March 1st
Truck 53 was alerted to respond
to the 47-01 box for a chimney fire around 1800 hours.
The Truck crew went to work with roof operations.
A few chimney bombs and some ventilation were used
before units returned to service. Units cleared
around 1920 hours.
DWELLING FIRE
February 27th
Truck 53
dispatched for the dwelling assignment on Old
Scotland Rd around 0945 hours. Crews arrived to
find a working fire. The truck went to the roof
and opened up. Crews performed some salvage and
overhaul before clearing at 1122.

TWO FIRES AT THE SAME TIME
February 24th
Truck and Air 53 were alerted at
0730 for the barn fire on the 447-01 box. Crews
arrived on scene to find a working fire. The tower
was placed into service utilizing the master stream for
about an hour. Crews remained on scene for several
hours completing salvage and overhaul. Units
returned to service at 1205 hours

While Truck 53 was working in Newville, another alarm
came in for a garage fire in the 251-01 box.
Engine 53 responded as the special service. Crews
arrived on scene to find another working fire and
quickly went to work assisting with fire suppression
duties.

TWO CHIMNEY FIRES
February 22nd
Truck and Engine 53 alerted
around 1640 hours to East Creek Road in the 151-02 box
for another chimney fire. Crews arrived on scene
and went to work. The truck crew took the roof and
dropped the chains to extinguishing the fire. Some
minor salvage and ventilation were performed before
crews returned at 1734 hours. Units returned to
quarters for approx an hour before being alerted for
another chimney fire on the 151-04 box. Crews did
the usually chimney detail and returned to service
around 2010 hours.


CHIMNEY FIREIGGGGG
February 16th
Truck and Engine 53 alerted at 1149 for a chimney fire
on box 151-02. Truck 53 arrived on scene to find
fire coming from two different flues. Due to
accessibility Engine 53 was put in service as the second
truck. Crews utilized the aerial & ground ladders
off of Engine 53 to access the roof. Several
chimney bombs were dropped and chains ran to extinguish
the fire. Crew cleared at 1250 hours

HOUSE FIRE NORTH NEWTOWN TWPBIGGGGG
February 10th
Truck 53 alerted at 0855 for the
dwelling fire on box 247-01. Engine 247 arrived on
scene with a working fire. The dwelling sustained
heavy smoke and heat damage. Truck 53 assisted
with hookin' ceilings and overhaul. The Truck
cleared the assignment at 1014 hours.

CV HOSE BANQUETBIGGGGG
February 7th
Members enjoyed a night off and meet at the
Shippensburg VFW for an evening of fun. The awards
ceremony was led by chief Shields. Vice President
Louis Larson took the Chief's Award, Lt. Corey Ross Fire
Fighter of the Year, and Duane Best was Rookie of the
Year. The President's awarded went to Asst. Chief
Cressler by John Yurko. Special thanks to Co. 47
for cover the truck house.

SHED FIRE
February 7th
TK53 alerted at 16:02 hrs for shed fire box
252-01. Truck arrived to find smoke coming from the
shed. TK53 crew forced entry, extinguished fire with
cans (APW). After extinguishment crew assisted with
salvage and overhaul.
Truck clear 16:41 hrs.
SHIPPENSBURG
BOROUGH HOUSE FIRE
February 5th
TK53 was alert at 15:39 Hours for dwelling fire at 15 N.
Washington Street. TK53 arrived to find fire on the
exterior wall on side B. Fire was extinguished and crews
assisted with salvage and overhaul. Units cleared at
16:22 hrs.

WORKING HOUSE FIRE
IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
January 30th
Truck 53
was alerted at 21:58 to North Newton Twp, 454 Nealy Road
on Box 247-03 for the chimney fire. Truck 53 arrived on
scene and laddered the building and found unknown need
for chains. After clearing the roof operations assisted
with PPV in the residence. The Truck crew cleared the
scene at 23:03.

WORKING HOUSE FIRE
IN FRANKLIN COUNTY
January 30th
Franklin
County alerted Box 15-1 at 17:27 to 12744 Mongul Hill
Road for a house fire. FC DC-11 arrived on scene with a
2.5 story home fire through the roof. Due to the
location of the home only one piece of apparatus could
access the lane all other crews had to hike up the
driveway to the scene, the Truck crew assisted with
search & rescue, fire suppression, ventilation and
salvage & overhaul while the Air unit filled cylinders.
Co.53 cleared the scene at 21:09.

KITCHEN FIRE IN THE
BOROUGH
January 30th
Shippensburg Companies were responded at 01:05 to 259
Walnut Street Box 52-01 for a kitchen fire. The crew
from Truck 53 assisted with ventilation and lighting
before being released by Command 4 at 01:31.
TRUCK & AIR ON 47
HOUSE FIRE
January 28th
Truck and
Air 53 were responded around 10:00 into Lower Mifflin
Twp, 447 Mountain Road Box 447-01 for a reported house
fire. Units from 47 arrived with a 2.5 story home with a
working fire and advised due to heavy fire conditions
exterior operations only. Truck 53 arrived and put the
ladder into service for ladder pipe operations, the crew
assisted with fire suppression and overhaul operations
throughout the incident. Air 53 fill cylinders. 53
cleared the scene at 14:00.

TRUCK TAKES IN
ANOTHER CHIMNEY FIRE
January 25th
The Truck
was alerted just around 21:30 to Box 50-02 at 2284 Pine
Road for a chimney fire. Truck 53 arrived and was
assigned roof operations, the crew laddered the roof and
ran the chains. Command released the Truck at 22:35.
TRUCK RESPONDS WITH
47 ON CHIMNEY FIRE
January 24th
Truck 53
was alerted for a chimney fire at 1170 Greenspring Road
on Box 247-06. The Truck arrived and the crew laddered
the roof and ran the chains, assisted with lighting
ventilation. 53 cleared the scene at 16:44.
ANOTHER TWO RUNS
INTO FRANKLIN COUNTY
January 19th
Engine 53
was alerted at 12:59 I-81, Box 15-81-7 for an auto
accident. The Engine arrived and the crew assisted EMS
with patient care and handled hazard control. Engine 53
cleared at 13:43.
Truck 53
responded at 23:23 to Box 7-2 for an AFA with Water Flow
at the Sleep Inn & Suites - 1470 Duron Drive. Truck 53
arrived and was advised by Command 7 (Chief 11) to
secure the power and shut the water off, once completed
the Truck crew assisted Co.7 personnel with
accountability of the patrons and water control before
being released.

FOUR FOR FIVE INTO
FRANKLIN COUNTY
January 17th
The truck
crew began the day with a trip to Chambersburg for the
1-05 Box for an inside investigation at 05:23 am and
then proceeded to Co 1 Headquarters station for a
transfer before being placed in service. At 10:03 Truck
53 was alerted to the Shippen House for an elevator
rescue. the Truck Company assisted with lowering
the elevator to gain access and let the occupants
out. After a mid day break Air 53 was sent to St. Thomas
Township to 7669 Cumberland circle for the mobile home
fire at 19:23, the Air unit arrived to fill 17 cylinders
before clearing the scene at 20:59. A short time later
Truck 53 and Air 53 responded on the 44-01 Box with the
working fire dispatch to 105 Franklin Farm Lane for a
house fire. The Truck was cancelled enroute and the Air
unit arrived on scene filling 12 cylinders before ending
the night at 2309.

CHIMNEY FIRE ON
WALNUT DALE ROAD
January 16th
At 21:04
Truck 53 was alerted to 211 Walnut Dale Road for a
chimney fire. Truck 53 arrived to find fire in the
chimney, the crew from truck laddered the roof and began
roof operations using chimney bombs and running the
chains. The Truck also provided lighting and equipment
for the interior crews. Truck 53 returned available at
22:06.
TRUCK TAKES IN 2nd
ALARM THEN TRANSFER TO CO.1
January 16th
Truck 53
was alerted at 07:03 as part of a 2nd alarm to 36 Glen
Street in the Chambersburg. The Truck staged with at
Glen & W. King Street until Command requested all 2nd
alarm units to send their manpower to side A. A short
time later all 2nd alarm units were placed in service
and Franklin County Communications requested the Truck
to transfer to Co.1 Headquarters Station. With no
additional calls handled, the Truck cleared in about 1.5
hours.

TWO MORNING RUNS
January 14th
Around
07:30 Truck 53 was dispatched and responded to Franklin
County to transfer to Chambersburg Headquarters Station
1. Cleared at 07:49. Later, at 10:21 Truck 53 dispatched
possible Barn Fire at 76 Goodhart Road
Southampton Township, box 252-101 box. Truck 53 staged
cleared at 10:36.
CHIMNEY FIRE IN
UPPER MIFFLIN TWP
January 13th
Truck 53
was dispatched for the chimney fire in Upper Mifflin
Twp, 26 Oak Bend Road Box 351-01, the Truck assisted
Company 47 with laddering the roof. The Truck crew then
assumed roof operation and ran chains. Truck cleared the
scene at 14:38.

ANOTHER DAY OF TWO
January 12th
Air 53 was
alerted to assist on the 8-04 Box in Hamilton Twp, 1494
Gomer Road for the Working Fire Dispatch to replace Air
10, the Air unit was cancelled when Air 10 went
responding at 10:33. Later that night Truck 53 was
dispatched to 14 Michaux Oaks Road , Box 250-02 for
smoke in the structure, the box was placed in service at
00:09.
BACK TO BACK TRUCK
RUNS
January 3rd
Truck53
was alerted to assist Co 11 for the AFA at Cumberland
Highway box 11-02 cleared at 20:23. At 23:56 Truck 53
and E53 were alerted and responded to 443 West King
Street box 52-01 for the smoke in a building. Truck 53
took side A, ladder the building vented the second
floor, from criminal mischief of discharged Dry
Chems. Co.53 units cleared the Box at 00:17
TWO ENGINE RUNS
START OFF 2009
January 1st
Engine 53 was dispatched at 00:39 for Debris Removal
from a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Earl
&
King Streets. The crew swept debris from the roadway
before being released at 00:51.
At 01:27 E53 was alert for second run for the Gas odor
outside at 26 East Burd Street, E53 arrived to find a
Gas line broke at the regulator outside of the
residence. The crew pulled a line and Chief 53 notified
Communications for gas company to be alerted. Gas
company arrived shut gas off and E53 cleared at 01:49.
